The Fintech Week Lithuania will host Data Rights Activist and the Founder of the
#OwnYourData campaign, Brittany Kaiser.
Brittany Kaiser is well known to many from the Netflix documentary ‘The Great Hack’, which exposed how social media data is being used to manipulate our attention and decisions.
Ms. Kaiser has worked at the now-defunct firm Cambridge Analytica, which played a crucial part in the elections of ‘at least 68 countries’, worked for the Trump 2016 campaign and with Leave.EU during the EU referendum in the UK. The firm had improperly obtained data associated with 87 million Facebook users’ profiles; the data, taken when users unknowingly installed a personality quiz, was used to manipulate and persuade people to extreme targeted advertising.
Brittany Kaiser has exposed the misuse of data by Cambridge Analytica and bigger dealings of the world’s governments, and is now advocating for owning your data campaign. Brittany says that with the data that we have provided about us in social media, companies can very accurately predict the behavior and persuade to make one decision or another. ‘That means that we are actually losing a little bit of control of our daily freedom’, she says.
Brittany now acts as an Advocate of citizen’s data rights. She believes in great importance in educating citizens about digital lives and help them make informed, responsible choices. The OwnYourData Foundation is doing exactly that- empowers individuals through digital intelligence education. The Foundation envisions the world where every person has the skills to critically evaluate their digital presence while benefiting from the perks of the many advancements in our digital world. The OwnYourData Foundation educates about data rights, cybersecurity, online ethics, effective communication and technology proficiency.
See and hear Brittany Kaiser at the Fintech Week Lithuania on 15th of June, 20:45 Vilnius, Lithuania time.
